Teachers always talk about how hard it is in the “real world”.Well I hate to asmit it ,but they were right. However, having an after-school job is actually helping me as a student and as a young woman. When I turned 16,my mum practically pushed me out of the huouse to look for a job ,She wanted me to learn the importance of being able to balance more than one thing at a time. She also wanted me to start grasping the idea of being an adult, making a living in the real world.Juggling work and study So now Iwork at a sneaker retail store after school and on weekends.Working 25hours a week doesn’t leave a lot o time for homework and studying.Teachers said to me: “Nothing is more important than school .If your job is taking you away from your work, then maybe it is best than you quit”Have I been excellent at managing my time? Not always. However,I am learning how important it is to be organized and time-efficient.So I did something that people have been telling me forever:I bought a planner.I wrote down when my homework assignments were due, when I had quizzes, and when I was working each week.Ipiannde all my time around the dates. So far it has worked out rather well.Adults should encourage students to get an after-school job. We are going to have to experience things for ourselves. But they should realize that we kids are going to make some mistakes.I may not be the top student that everyone wants me to be because Imay miss a homework assignment. But in the end,I think I will be an ace at surving in the real world.
