It' It's ove It' It's over three years since I began to learn English. I am glad that I am getting on well with it.
I find English quite difficult, but very interesting. When I first started, I thought I had only to remember
the new words and learn some grammars. I know little about English idioms (习语). I thought each English word has the same meaning in Chinese. When I learned to say "I see a book on the desk", I thought the English word "see" was just like the Chinese word "kan". So one day when my teacher asked me, "What are you doing?" I answered, "I'm seeing a book." "That's wrong." The teacher said. "You don't see a book. You read a book. You can't use an English word like a Chinese one. Be sure not to make the same mistake again."
After that I began to pay more attention to the differences between Chinese and English. For example, in English we say a "high mountain", but a "tall man". In Chinese we use the same word "gao" for both. Again in English we say "take part in the sports meeting", "attend a meeting" and "join the army", while in Chinese we can use "can jia" for all three. Interesting, isn't it?
So to study English doesn't only mean hard work, it can be great fun, too! We
not only have to pay attention to pronunciation, grammar, spelling and
handwriting, we also have to understand English idiom. We can learn English
well only in that way!

学习英语三年了。很高兴我在慢慢进步。我发现英语挺难，但有趣。刚开始，我原认为只要记住单词和语法就可以，知道的习语很少。原以为每个英语单词的意思和汉语的意思一样。当我学会说“我看到桌上有本书”，我认为英语“see”的意思和汉语的“看”的意思一样。一天，老师问我“你在做什么？”。我回答“我在看书”。“错误”老师说。“你不是看见书，是你读书。你不能把中文的意思直接用在英语里，下次不要再犯同样的错误。”
从那以后，我开始注意区分英语和汉语。例如，英语说高山“highmountain”，但是说高个子人“tallman”，汉语都用“高”表达。又如，英语说参加运动会“take part in the sportsmeeting”，开会“attend a meeting”，参军“jointhe army”，而汉语都用“参加”表达。有意义吧？
所以学习英语不是一件辛苦的工作，而同样是一件有意思的事情！我们不仅要关注发音、语法、拼写、书写，还要了解英语习语。我们只有这样才能把英语学好。
