第一句中missed my aunt与crashed on the dining table on the considerable force 和tripped no the carpet 都是作句子的谓语，因tripped 可知该句应用一般过去时时态故用missed而不用missing 。第二句narrowly missing …都是作整个句子的伴随状语，因对应主语the titanic 与动作miss the immense wall 为主动关系故应用表主动的missing 而不用missed（表被动与完成）

第一里的missed是动词，过去式表示时态，和and这个连接词后的crashed同一时态。
第二个missing是现在分词，是由另一种句子变形过来的。
原句是：The Titanic turned just in time,and the titanic narrowly missed the immense wall of ice which rose 100 feet out of the water beside her.删除连接词和主语(因为主语一样，所以可以删除)，然后把missed改为missing,由动词的过去式改为现在分词。就变为:The Titanic turned just in time,narrowly missing the immense wall of ice which rose 100 feet out of the water beside her. 一般英语文章多会采用第二种，属于句型的转换。但是，在分析文法时，多半会把第二种变回第一种做语法分析。

个人认为，第一个missed是做谓语动词，因为and连接的两个主语不一样，所以不是做非谓语。。第二个是分词作伴随状语嘛，表示 泰坦尼克号从冰山旁擦过是伴随其掉头转向的一种状态。。补充一下，这个narrowly是作“勉强的”意思，很地道的美式英语。。。
