1 It is gratifying to learn from your letter of October 13 that you are interested in an offer from us for 60 metric tons of dates, 2005 fruit, for shipment to New York.
We are making you, subject to your acceptance reaching us not later than October 30, 2005, the following offer:
Since no direct steamer is available from here to New York, the parcel will have to be transhipped at Hong Kong. Please note that the additional cost from Hong Kong to New York is included in the quoted price.
As you may have been aware, there has been of late a large demand for dates of the quality you specify, and we are, therefore, unable to hold the offer open for too long. It is obvious that such a growing demand will result in increase of price, but you may profit by this advancing market if you let us have your acceptance immediately. There is, however, very little likelihood of the goods remaining unsold once this particular offer has lapsed.
We look forward to your early reply.
Yours sincerely,
2 Your name and address have been passed on to us by your Chamber of Commerce as a large exporter of iron and steel products, with many years’ experience in this particular line of business. As these products come within the scope of goods we deal in, we are glad to forward you this letter in hope of establishing prosperous and mutually beneficial relationship between us.
If you can assure us of workable prices, excellent quality and prompt delivery, we are in a position to place large orders. We, therefore, suggest that you furnish us with a complete set of your latest catalogues together with a price list covering all your products of export, and shall be much obliged for you earlier attention.
As to our credit standing, we refer you to the Bank of China in your country.
Anticipating your kind cooperation and thanking you in advance, we are.
Yours faithfully,
