start to do sth VS. start doing sth. 开始做某事
两者常可换用，但有些许差别：
1、 强调开始长期或习惯性活动，多用doing; 强调某次具体动作，多用to do
I was five when I first started playing the piano.
我五岁的时候开始弹钢琴。（可能弹钢琴很久了）
He sat down at the piano and started to play.
他坐在钢琴旁，开始弹奏。（描述具体动作）
2、主语是物不是人时，多用to do
The car started to move. 汽车开始移动。
常见搭配：
1）be starting to do sth.
She is starting to get angry. 她开始生气了。
2）start to understand/realize…
He started to realize how important this was.
他开始意识到这有多重要。
3、start用进行时时，后面动词用不定式to do
I was beginning to get angry。
我开始生起气来。
在start 后接know, understand, realize这类表示心理状态或精神活动的动词时，常用不定式to do。
I begin to understand the truth。

下列情况只能用start to do sth
1）主语是物，不是人。如：The ice started to melt. 冰开始融化。
2）start已经用于进行时，如：Mary is starting to do her homework.玛丽开始做作业了。
3） start后面跟的是指心理状态或精神活动的词。如：I started to understand the lesson.我开始理解这一课。
4）用于描述天气变化时。如：It started to get dark before we know it.不知不觉天就黑了。
5）强调动作的实际开始时。如：We started to laugh when she entered the room. 当她走进房间时，我们开始大笑。
