The performance of the host, _______ to please the audience and draw their attention, was greeted with a cold silence, however.
A intended B, intending

先看intend这个动词的原型,应该是sb intend sth (as sth or to do sth), 这里其实就是 the host intend the performance to please......
也就是the performance is intended to please.....

intended / -dɪd; -dɪd/ adj

The performance of the host, (intended to please the audience and draw their attention,)(1) was greeted with a cold silence, however.

The host's performance, which was intended to please the audience and draw their attention, was greeted with a cold silence. however.

省略了which was

解释:The performance of the host, (who was省略掉了 )_intended__ to please the audience and draw their attention, was greeted with a cold silence, however.

考点;be intended to
_intended__ to please the audience and draw their attention,这个是用来形容the host主人的, 只是一个修饰性的定语,真正的句子是The performance of the host was greeted with a cold silence。

1.根据句子分析可知,“_______ to please the audience and draw their attention”在句子中是做补充说明的成分,又因为the performance of the host 作主语,是事物,而不是人,所以应该用被动语态,即intended,而不是主动语态intending。
