(1)I have been eating too much, and my clothes are getting tight.
"I have been eating too much"是个从句,主语是I,动词是have been eating(现在完成进行式)。"my clothes are getting tight"也是个从句,主语是 my clothes,动词是 are getting。
(2)When an American woman meets someone for the first time, she may or may not offer her hand.
"when...time"是从句,主语是 woman,动词是 meets。 "she...hand"是主句,主语是 she,动词是 may or may not offer。
1.主句(Main or Principal Clause)与从句(Subordinate Clause)
(1)I will go if I am invited.
"I will go"(我会去。
"if I am invited"(假如我被邀请 —— 将如何呢?)
(2)Please come over again when you have time.(你有时间请再来。)
"when you have time"(当你有时间的时候)不能表示完整的意义,所以只是个从句。
(3)The person we plan to hire for the job is Mr.A.
