但是the other不是说两者中的一个吗，怎么又可以加day表示另外一个意思呢

the other day=a few days ago 几天前。
用于一般过去时。作时间状语用并不是两天中的另外一天的意思。
The other day I met one of my old classmates on the street.几天前我在街上遇到一位老同学。
