1、表示“两个东西中的另一个”如：One flower is red, the other (one) is white. 一朵花是红的，另一朵是白的；
2、指“除去前者后，剩余的全部”，后可加复数名词，如：the other students

the others：pron．特指一定范围内的其余的全部人或事物。相当于the other + 可数名词复数，因此后面不需要接名词。例如：
