请教英语and I连读是如何发音的

在学新慨念第二册是，出现几处and I,发现都是连读，但连读的发音不一样，有时读成 /ændai/,而有时读成/ændai/。也就是d音有时省，有时不省。
如以下例句：
Then he said something and I understood it. /ænai/
I am an art student and I paint a lot of pictures. /ændai/
请问有什么发音规则么？
