1、适用场景不同
be like用于问话时，询问某人的外表、品行或某物的情况，在陈述句中表示说话人的判断：
What is he like?
他是个什么样的人？
He is just like everybody else.
他和别人完全一样。
look like用于问话时，询问答话者认为某人或某物像什么，在陈述句中表示说话人认为他或它像什么：
What does he look like?
他看起来像是什么样的人？
He looks like a professor.
他看起来像是个教授。
2、性质和特征不同
形容词作系词be的表语，描述主语的性质、特征或状态。如果我们就表语形容词提问，则用What is sth/sb like? 回答这个问题时，我们可以从不同角度来描述主语，如功能方面、性质上、视觉上、听觉上、嗅觉上等的特征，不受限制。
如果形容词作系词look的表语，则只是表述视觉上的特征，不牵涉其它方面。此时就表语形容词提问，则为 What does sth/sb look like? 回答这个问题就受到限制，只能回答视觉方面的特征，视觉以外的内容则为答非所问。

一、look作系动词时，与appear和seem意思相同

二、look作不及物动词时，后面常跟介词或副词，构成短语动词。如look at, look after, look for, look in, look out, look round, look through, look up等。
