Them more readily removable by laundry water and detergents form the fibres. The enzymes chosen for laundering are two three common protein enzymes that readily breakdown food protein .These enzymes are incapable of breaking down or digesting wool, hair or silk fibres which are to them indigestible protein. Sensibly used ,as instructed on the package, enzyme powders are a boon to laundering and a real break-through in the history of laundering .
Detergent-Enzyme Powders These are simply a mixture of detergent powder with enzyme powder. To gain full benefit of this mixture the instructions stated on the package must be followed .
Cold Water Powders These are synthetic detergent powders that work efficiently in cold water. They tend to lose their efficiency as the temperature of the water increases. Their composition is rather similar, as for the hot water synthetic detergent powders.
Bleaches Bleaches are , of course , not detergents, but chemical agents that remove discolouration or stains that cannot be removed by general laundering. If bleaching is necessary, adhere strictly to the instructions provided on the bottle or package . It is a bad habit to bleach before laundering .Liquid, chlorine bleach must not be used on wool or other alkali sensitive fibres . Bleaches should always be used sparingly as they will even degrade cotton , the safest fibre to bleach .The other various powder bleaches are somewhat gentler , but can degrade the fibre if used excessively.
Fabric Conditioners or “Softeners” These products are sold to be used in the final rinse of laundering .When added to the rinse water the condition covers each fibre of the article with a waxy film .This waxy film makes the fibres more slippery ,which is conveyed as softer ,fuller handle .Although ,these conditioners do not soften the fibres ,the fibres become more supple making the fabric feel softer .
Some readily available conditioners are comfort and Nappee .
