possible：
表达的可能性比较小，表示说话者把握不大，事情成为事实的可能性不是很大。
有或许，也许如此，也许不如此的意思。强调客观上的可能性。
一般不要表示人的词作主语，如果用表示人的词作主语，后面要接不定式。如It is possible to do something。

probable与possible译成汉语时很难加以区分，但是它们在英语里还是有区别的：
前者所表达的可能性比后者大，并且推理的成分较重，表示说话者有相当的把握，确信会成为事实:
His success is possible, but not probable.
他获得成功是可能的，但把握不大。

It is highly probable that he will take over his father's business.
他极可能接手他父亲的生意。
不难明白，如果把句子里的probable改为possible，则说话人那种深信不疑的口气和把握性就会大大减弱。前面的说明也适用于副词probably和possibly:

In all there are probably no more than a total of 400 tigers left in China.
目前在中国存留的老虎总数很可能只有400只。
Possibly this person died without anyone knowing where the coins were hidden.

possible, probable的区别
这两个词的反义词是impossible, improbable
1）possible作“或许”解，有“也许如此，也许不如此”之意。强调客观上有可能性，但常常带有“实际可能性很小”的暗示。
2）probable用来指有根据，合情理，值得相信的事物，带有“大概，很可能”的意味。语气比possible要重，是most likely之意。
It’s possible, though not probable. That he will accept the terms.他也可能接受这些条件，但希望不大。

It is possible/probable + that …（从句）
