situation什么情况下用复数？

Question

Kite works on the 70th floor of an apartent tower in New York.She had just left her office and was trapped in an elevator on the 65th floor.At first she was worried. She called Sam and Sam remembered that his friend Joe worked high in that building.Joe could take care of the s(ituations).
这里situations为什么要有复数？这个词什么情况下用复数？谢谢，

在我理解应该是都可以的。
如果是单数 the situation特指现在遇到的情况。
如果是复数 the situations特指这些情况（前文提到的困在电梯里相关的）。
