Let’s trade (贸易)! Will you take a piece of cake for an apple? A good book for a game? A toy boat for a car?
Long ago, people had to get what they wanted by trading. Some people farmed the land. Other people made
tools. Tools (工具) were traded for food.
All kinds of trading took place. If a man had too much meat, he could trade it for corn (玉米). He could trade animal skins for tools. Sometimes men traded a day’s work for a place to sleep.
Many useful things were traded. But people want pretty things, too. A farmer might trade milk for a piece of beautiful cloth.
Even today we trade with one another. When you buy a candy, do you pay for it with toy bear? Of course not! You use money. But you are still trading. You are still giving one thing for another.
