After Bobby’s father died three years ago, the family of five lived a hard life. It was Christmas Eve already. All three of his sisters had already made beautiful gifts for their mother, but Bobby had nothing.
Wiping a tear from his eye, Bobby started to walk down the street looking into each decorated window. Everything seemed so beautiful. But he had no money. It was getting dark and Bobby had to go home when suddenly he found a dime(一角钱)on the road.
Never before has anyone felt as rich as Bobby felt at that moment. He held it and walked into a shop. But they told him that he could not buy anything with only a dime.
Finally he saw a flower shop and went inside to wait in line. When the shop owner asked if he could help him, Bobby showed the dime and asked if he could buy one flower for his mother’s Christmas gift. The shop owner put his hand on Bobby’s shoulder and said to him,“You just wait here and I’ll see what I can do for you.”
A few minutes later, there, before Bobby’s eyes, lay twelve red roses, with green leaves and tiny white flowers all tied together beautifully.
“That will be one dime, young man,” the shop owner said. Could this be true? No one else would give him a thing for his dime!
Seeing the boy’s look, the shop owner added, “I just happened to have some roses on sale. Would you like them?”
