埃斯泰·迪安在写这首歌的时候，刚好是某个星期天。写歌曲时，埃斯泰·迪安写的第一句就是“来吧，来吧”，她也不知道这是什么意思，于是她接着看歌曲的下一句歌词。上面写道：“棍棒和石头或许会打断我的骨头”，然后是“但铁链的束缚皮鞭的挥打刺激着我的神经”。
她顿时找到了灵感，同时也觉得这句话很有意思，所以就下定决心要把它写完。埃斯泰·迪安在写完歌曲后，将词曲交给星门团队、Sandy Vee、库克·哈瑞尔薇罗妮卡·博兹曼，用以制作这首歌的伴奏音乐。
