Lewis dot structure: (only for the simple covalent molecule)

1) the sum of valence electrons [For main group, the valence electrons are the outermost electron, and the number of outermost electrons (valence electrons) of main group = Group number
i) neutral
ii) negative plus electrons [ ]n-
iii) positive minus electrons [ ]m+

2) least electronegativity element (except H and a noble gas atom) is at the centre and other atoms are around the central atom.

3) a single bond( one covalent bond) is formed between central atom and each surrounding atom.

4) the remaining valence electrons are distributed to the surrounding atoms to form the noble gas configuration.

5) the remaining valence electrons are distributed to the central atom

6)
(a) if the outermost electrons on the central atom is equal to or greater than 8 , That 's OK

(b) if the outermost electrons on the central atom is less than 8, the lone pair of electrons from surrounding atoms should be donated to form new covalent bonds to make the central atom with noble gas configuration
( for some special cases , central atom with more than 8 electrons.)本回答被提问者和网友采纳
